The Otago Hunt Club have received a welcome aad valuable addition to the kennels i« the shape of a present from Captain Gardner (of Birchvrood) of four couple 3of splendid healthy young hounds. The spotted beauties arrived on Thursday night, and are at present located at the Criterion Stables, whore they have been much admired. Captain Gardner's generosity is to be commended, and the Hunt Club are to be congratulated on their acquisition.

At a weeting of directors of the Caledonian Society, held last evening, it was reported that the running and walking eutriss ware well up to ksfc year's. The Bale of tickets of membership is also making good progress.

A full meeting of the Committee of the Dunedia Amateur Swimming Clab was hole last evening, Mr Crosby Smith in the chair. It was arranged that, subject to the consent of the Harbour Board, the inaugural swimming tournament would be held on Saturday, 26th January 1895, in the steamers' basin. A programme, comprising a 200 yards championship, three handicap events (one. each open to Rowing Club and Naval Brigades), two boys' events, blindfold, lenp frog, fancy swimming, &t:.. concluding with an obabacle race and polo match, was adapted. Several handsome prizes have been obtained and various others are promised. The objects in founding an Am&teur Swimming Club in Duuedin are to encourage aud improve local swimming, and also to provide trophie3 worthy of competition. From all appearances thesu objects have bsen achieved, and, as members ara enrolling irsoly, the future of the club seems to be a success.
