FIRE IN A TANNERY. Melbourne, December 19. Abbqtt's tannery, near Bsndigo, has been burned to the ground. The damage is estimated at LIO.OOO. The building and ceateats were insured for L 5500. LAND AND INCOME TAX. The L-md and Income Tax: Bill was read a third time in the Legislative Assembly by 47 rotes to 35. In Committee on the bill an amendment; was carried exempting mutual life offices from land tax. The amendment was un3uccsssfully oppossd by the Government. WOMEN'S FRANCHISE. Adelaide, December 19. Tbs Legislative Assembly pas?td the Woman's Suffrage Bill. The only alteration made ia Committee was in the direction of granting women the right to vote through the past. The amendment-, however, is conditional on the Legislative Council assenting to it.
