NORTH-EAST VALLEY BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The regular monthly meeting of the North* East Valley Borough Council was attended bj the Mayor (Mr Anderson), CraScoones, Calder, Evano, Green, Russell, Campbell, Arthur* Short, and M'Gregor. The Finance Committee reported that £150 33 Id had been paid into the bank, and recommended that accounts, some of which had been running since 1892, amounting to £70 5s lOd, he passed for payment. The overdraft stood at £104-7 7s Id, which was £252 lEs lid below the statutory limit. In conuectioa with a claim made by Messrs Stout, Mondy, and Sim for wages said to be due to the late town clerk, the committee recommended that the council dieclaim all liability, and ask the solicitors to supply particulars of Mr Schlotel's whereabouts. —Adopted. The Works Committes recommended than the clerk be instructed to call fer tenders for surface work for the borough for one year.—« Adopted. The General Committee recommended that the clerk write to the agents of Alexander Sutherland, re depositing rubbish on his section, Calfcon Extension, the matter having been complained of by reuidents there. In connection with several complaints made by ratepayers with regard to Mr. Ellis failing to perform his duties as nightsoil contractor, the committee reported that they had interviewed Mr Ellis, and that he had given satisfactory explanations, and it had been decided to request him to forward to the council a list of persons nob employing him, ia order that the council might prosecute anyone found burying nightsoil or not complying with th 3 aot. In connection with a drain on the property of Mr M'Donald, Selwyn, the eommitteerecommended that, after hearing from Mr M'Drm*!d, the action of the mayor, in instructing the clerk to put on a man to clean and repair the drain, be endorsed.—Adopted. The City Council wrote consenting to pay half cost of repairs to Pine Hill terrace, to tha extent of £s—Agreed to. Tbe City Council wrote further re the appoint" ment of a delegate to attend the drainage scheme meeting. It was resolved that the letter be received, and that the council appoint a delegate to attend, aa requested, and that the council view with satisfaction the awakening interest in the sanitation of the city and suburbs. That the clerk be instructed to write the City Council and the Dunedin Sanitary Institute assuring them that nothing would give the council greater satisfaction than thfi Formation of a drainage board, and the inauguration of a thorough system of drainage for the city and suburban municipalities. Cs Green was appointed a» delegate.
