LINCOLN SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE.

(Pbe United Pbbss Association.)

Chkistohubch, October 29.

The Board of Governors of Canterbury College to-day, on the motion of Mr Stead, appointed a committee, consisting of the Hon. J. T. Peacock, Messrs B. G. Wright and G. G. Stead, to consider tho feasibility of enlarging the scope of the Lincoln School of Agriculturu and of widening its sphere of usefulness. The morer eaid the school held 62,24-7 acres of land, the rents from which were used for tha purpose of carrjing it on. The buildings had cost £3^,0+3 11s 7d, and the land on which they stood £17,711 16s Bd. In addition to the 62,24-7 acres, the school had £55,068 to tho credit of its capital account, and this lent out on mortgage interact was available for carrying on the school. Last year the not revenue had been £3226 5a lid. There were 39 or'4o students at the school at present—the largest numbar ever oa its books at onetime —aud these were supposed to go through a two-years' courss, thus allowing for about 20 being, turned out each year. He thought, howsver, ho would be within the mark if he said that within the last 10 years only about 10 students a-year had gone through the course. This, he thought was a very poor return for the expenditnre of £3226 per annum, and £50,000 sunk in capital. He thought 20 or 30 aiore scholars could be taken on without increasing the expense, and thesa could ba obtained by giving free scholarships nt the public schools. He thought a great deal of good would be done if the director was instructed to publish monthly or quarterly a record of the operations of the collage, so that the farming community could learn the results of the experiments carried out, about which at present they .knew nothing. It would greatly benefit the farming community if tho results of the experiments as to the growth of clover, the dairy industry, and the orossing of sheep were published.
