At the installation of the W. Bro. F. H. D. Bell as G.M. of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand, Bro. E T. Gillon, in proposing Bro. Bell as Graud Master, went at considerable length into tho question of selecting a brother who was not a past master, and quoted a number of precedents to show that the course was not uncommon. Bro. Bell, in returning thanks, alluded to the fact that when it was determined Jhat the Grand Master this year should be taken from WeUiugton there were two men—Bros. Gillon and Williams— wbo had superior claims to the office, but both had refused. Congratulations were received from the Grand Lodge of Ohio, tho Grand Orients of Italy and Spain, Greeoe, Cuba, Indian Territory, Nevada, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Canada, Nova Scotia, and Brunswick (South Australia). Bro. Peterkin (Aorangi Lodge) was presented with a past master's jewel on behalf of the lodge. AraoDg the Grand Lodge officers elected were:—Treasurer, Bro. Goldflnch (Wellington) ; registrar, Bro. Hamerton (Wellington); president of the Board of General Purposes, Bro. Gillon (Wellington) ; secretary, Rev. W. Ronaldson (Wellington); grand superintendents—Bros. Powley (Auckland), Bilbey (Hawke's Bay), Bischell (Westland), Kirby (Otago), Sawyers (Southland), Thompson (Canterbury), president of the Board of Benevolence, Bro. M'Kenzie (Wellington); senior deacons, Bros. Hanna (Auckland), Thome (Southland); superintendent of works, Bro. Thomas (Auckland); director of ceremonies, Bro. Smith (Palmerston North) ; organist, Bro. Robertson (Wellington).
