AUCKLAND NEWS NOTES.
(Fuom Oun Own Cohbespondent.) Auckland, August 31. A FLYING MACHINE.
The idea of a flying machino is by no means new, but the advent of one that will stand satisfactory demonstration iB decidedly something out of the common. Arthur Marychurch, of Waotu, has for some time past been experimenting with this, matter, and at last is reported to have succeeded in inventing a machine which will actually ascend into the ' air, rising, falling, and turning at the will of the navigator, and is not* affected by a head wind. It will, however, probably be some time before it is available for use. | AN ABSCONDER. The Star says :—"With reference lo a paragraph we published on the authority of a Masterton paper that Joe Bernard, an absconder from Greytown, Wiirarapa, escaped- in the last 'Frisco mail boat from Auckland disguised as a woman, Mr M'Alister, of the firm of Tole and M'Alister, solicitors, informs us thatthe man did not get away in female attire, but that he was interviewed in Queen street, .and he handed over in their offices £140 duo to client's."
