. ~ Keeftox, August 20. A comimttec meeting of the lteefton Mining Association was held last night in the County Council Clambers, Mr \V. Irving in the chair. Jlie object waa to consider the new Mining Act Amendment Bill now before Parliament. Strong exception wastaken to sub-clause c of section o2of the act of last year, and also section 3 of the Aiuoiuliiic.-ntr.ill, and it was resolved to recommend that both be struck out. The fullowin" resolutions were carried unanimously .--(I) " That the secretary (Mr Hankin) write to Mr Reeves, M.Jl.^., asking him to endeavour to get clause «0 the act of ISO I amended as previously desired by the association, and also the su"»estions in reference to the labour clauses in the regulations. (2) ' i hat the provisions of the prowsed Mining Companies Act, which provides that a lia ance sheet must be prepared in January 1 and July 1, will entail upon the majority of companies the cost and inconvenience of preparing and printing four balance sheets annually as the times for meetings and balance sheets are fixed by coinnanipV mips it other dates, and that to have all companies"mee"IPS? at .'i xe(l tllncs would be inconvenient "CO that if any special audit is obtained, the person applying for it should pay for it in advance " (4) ihat a manaser shall pay into bank when a sum of not less t:mn 15 is on band " (•"■) "That minins coinpnnics are already heavily taxed by useless and costly provisions whereby their action is paralysed." It was decided to forward these resolutions to headquarters at once, and also to fiive reasons showing why the recommendations contained in them are necessary. Another meeting will probably be hold shortly.
