PRINCESS THEATRE.

"EAST LYNNE.

It has frequently been observed that plays of the lachrymose order possess a great attraction for I tha public, and that they hardly ever fail to draw large audiences. " East Lynne "is aboutthe most popular of them all, and it certainly does not seem to grow less attractive by reason, of its frequent repetition. At' all events it drew an excellent house to the Princess Theatre last night when its production served to bring to a close the successful and enjoyable season in Dunedin of Miss Myra Kemhle and her company, and the representation was witnessed with as much interest as if the play had been entirely a new one. The success or' failure of the piece is, to a large extent, dependent upon the manner in which the character of Lady Isabel is portrayed, and Miss Kemble's impersonation of the part left nothing to be desired, bhe invested the character of Archibald Carlyle's sinning but repentant wife with a true womanly leeling, and her acting was so successful that it earned the house with enthusiasm, a "call" being made at the close of each of three acts.
