MINING.
NOTES FROM WAKATIPU. : (From Ouii Own Correspondent.) ; I Aiuiowtown, January 30.—1n mining things are moving along slowly, but upon the whole satisfactorily. It is much more reassuring, and healthy that mining work should go on deliberately than that it should proceed feverishly by leaps and bounds, even though the result be that the progress made does not furnish any matter for sensational newspaper reports; and as a rule it may be accepted that when there is nothin? to report in mining, 'there are at least no "babies" to hold. i The Premier Consolidated, Macetown, will soon have their Pelton wheel at work, whem this' stone now being raised from the mine will be submitted to wholesale tests so long as the water supply holds out. , .■ ' The Sunrise Company, Advance Peak, are now busy sleighing quartz to the battery, iiud as'soou as the supply has accumulated to keep the mill going crushing will be started. Seven men are employed breaking out stone, and more will be put on next week, so that with the width of the reef (2ft) holding out, there will be no difficulty in keeping the battery going till the season closes; In dredging there is nothing new to report. Two or three of the machines lie idle on the banks of the rivers they were intended to work, and arc stared at by tomtits, who with absence of better information look upon these as the skeletons of some new monsters whiefo they find it hard to class. The Sew Hoy Company's dredges and that at the Sandhills are working steadily, and with satisfactory results. The rains were not enough in quantity to interfere with their operations.
