ROWING NOTES.
On Thursday evening the first heat for Dunedin Club's "Hyam's" Fours took place over the two-mile course. Foster's crew led from the start, and won rather easily from James Ihe next round, comprising four heats, takes place this afternoon, and should produce some capital racing. At 2 o'clock Hooper s crew meets Kinvig's, at 3 FosterV rows W. J. MacLaughlin's, at 4 Godward's rows Brebner's, and at 5 Moloney's rows Moss' • and as the Otago Rowing Club's pair races take' place also this afternoon, there should be plenty to interest boating men. Dunedin Club lose a hard-working member in their captain, Mr MacLaughlin, who has been transferred to Invercargill. One might say that he and the secretary (Mr Hooper) were the founders of the club, and very pleased they must be to see their efforts eo successful.
The pair-oar races seem to be very popular with the Otago boys, judging by the number of crews out of an evening. I hear this club has ordered a new boat from Edwards' of Melbourne, so we shall see some capital racing at the Dunedin regatta. 1 only wish the Port Club could see their way to go and do likewise.
A rowing match, between teams selected from the employes of Messrs Morris and Seeyle's firm a *?!S , establ >snment of Messrs Innes and M'Parlane, took place in the Upper Harbour last evening. A good start . was effected about 7 o'clock, and a tight "race «>™J "P ,to t^ half-tide wall. Here Innes and M'Farlane's crew assumed the load, and maintained the premier position until the finish, winning by about five lengths. The other crew ceased rowing before the tongue wharf was reached, the course laying between that point and the second beacon
Akawa.
