DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.

The first meeting of this year's committee oi the Dunedin Jockey Club was held last night and was attended by the Hon. G. M'Lean, M.L.C. (president), Messrs H. Driver J Hazlett, F. Meenan, W. H. Taggart,' It' Wilson, J. Fleming, W. L. Philp, P. Miller. E. Gourley, J. A. Cook, J. Mills, M.H.R., and L. Maclean.

PItESS ACCOMMODATION. A deputation from the cqmmittee of the DunBdin branch of the New' Zealand Journalists' Institute waited upon the committee and represented the urgent necessity for an extension <n the accommodation provided at the racecourse for the Press.—Mr M. Cohen acted as spokesman for the deputation, and pointed out the inadequacy, particularly on the occasion of the principal meetings of the club, of the existing accommodation for newspaper representaW.—The President, in reply, assured the deputation that the club were desirous of granting facilities for the correct reporting of their race meetings, and stated that the matter ot the request would be taken into consideration.

APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. Ihe appointment of officers for the ensuing 16 months was then proceeded with, and resulted in the respective offices being filled as ipllows,—Hon. treasurer, Mr P. Meenan (reeected); secretary, Mr Sydney James (reelected); assistant secretary, Mr H. L. James (re-elected); handicapper, Mr G. Dowse (rets ected);judge, MrL. Maclean (re-elected); it t£ c COUPB> Mr H- Gourloy (re-elected) clerk of the scales, Mr A. W. Bremner; tim£ keeper, Mr E. Hogg (re-elected). When the question of the appointment of starter was reached, the committee offered the position to Mr Driver for the ensuing year, but that gentleman declined the offer, and it was resolved to advertise for applications, returnable by the 12th February, from persons willing to undertake the duties of the position at a remuneration of seven guineas per diem Ihe committee for the year will be the stewards, and the following sub-committees were appointed, the president being ex oflieio a member of each:— *"

DISQTJALIFICATIONS. t i £f J vas read from the Waimea Plains Jockey Club stating that they had disqualified John Lawson, jockey, for three months, for suspicious riding on the horse May King in the Waimea Plains Cup Handicap on the 17th December.—lt was resolved to endorse the disqualification.

A letter was read from the North Otago Jockey Club, applying to have the grey mare Greyhound placed on the unpaid forfeit list for nomination fees unpaid.—lt was decided to comply with the request.

CLASHING OF FIXTURES. Letters were read from the Maori Kaik and Palmerston Clubs with reference to the dates pi meetings, the object being to prevent clashing with the fixtures of other clubs —The secretary was instructed to submit at the next meeting of the committee a report as to the dates of the different meetings. TENDERS. It was resolved to call for tenders for the grand stand booth and luncheon room privileges for the ensuing 12 months. NEW MEMBERS. Messrs John Perry, F. M. Coxhead, and A Micnie were elected members of the club.

The Dunedm representatives for the Championship meeting at Christchurch intend leaving for Christchurch by the express on Monday morning. Burk, Bauchop, and Neill have done hard training during the week, and show a decided improvement on trial form. Low has had just about enough, or a little too much work previous to the trials, and is now taking a spell. Bam was unable to do a trial owing to a slight strain, but is now quite recovered consequently the committee of the DAAC decided to include him in the team to compete tor the One-Mile and Three-Mile Walk Haynes will compete in the Three-Mile Run, and is rapidly getting into form. An enthusiastic meeting of the St. Clair Baths Tournament Committee was held on Wednesday evening, when encouraging reports were received. With fine weather the tournament promises to be the most successful yet held. In addition to the usual races, an expert has kindly offered to give an exhibition of fancy swimming, and the committee have arranged a special item called the Rescue Race, m order to show the best way to recover a body and bring it ashore. Valuable prizes have been received from Messrs Wise, Caffln, and Co., Wilkieand Co., Souness and Gamble, - G. and T. Young, J. Mendelsohn, T. MB Muir, A. Sligo, C. W. Kerr, C. Cantrell; and many others have been kindly promised. A Sydney cablegram states that Too Soon has been sold for 750 guineas to Mr Long, and will be sent to the stud at Hobartville. G. S. Hill won the test race at Wellington last night against E. J. Rose, to decide which .should represent Wellington in the contest for the Champion Sculls. The committee are not satisfied, and will probably order the race to be rowed ov^r again. An Oamaru telegram states that at the Cycling Club's sports there were large fields and capital contests. The Three-mile Roadster was won by D. Miller, with A. J Grave second and G. Burford (Timaru) third. The Ladies' Bracelet, one milej was won by A. Curtis (Waimate), with D. Miller second and H. H. Denby (Timaru) third. The Consolation was won by Denby, with Lawson second. In this race there were a couple of spills. The iuaugural meeting of the Tahuna Park Recreation Club will be held on the 10th of February.
