January, and will be hold in the following ordoi —Donald Reid and Co., Fanners' Agency Com pany, Mutual Agency Company, Wright. Stcphcnson, and Co., Stronach Brothers and Morris, New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Should the weather continue favourable for shearing this sale will probably be the largest held throughout the season. We would advise clients to hurry forward their clips and take advantage of the present full attendance of buyers. Catalogues will close on Monday, the 25th January. Sheepskins.—The attendance at the weekly sales on Tuesday was about the average. Full catalogues were presented, comprising the usual assortment, but mostly green pelts from both town and country butchers ; all sorts, however, were well competed for, realising prices on a par with those ruling lately. Country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is Sd to 3s lOd ; do do merino. Is 7d to 3s ; full woolled crossbreds, 4s 3d to (is (id ; do do merino, 4s to 5s lOd ; dry pelts, 3s to Is (id ; a few lots green crossbreds in the wool, 5s Od to (is 6d; green crossbred pelts, 12d, 14d, 15d, 16(1, to 17d ; lambskins—best, Is 8d to 2s 7d ; medium, Is 'Id to Is 7d each. Rabbitskins.—There is nothing of any consequence to report with regard to these. This being the off season, the number coining forward is limited, and mostly of inferior quality ; but eveil for these there are buyers at prices leaving but little margin for export. Winters sold at lUid to Is; summer and autumn, 7Jd to 9d ; coloured, Sd to lOd; suckers, 3d to sd. Hides. —A good inquiry for all available, more especially the heavier sorts ; but there is no change in values, which are, for heavy sorts, 2'jd to 2Jil; 651b and upwards, 2i}d to 3d; country hides, ljd to 2d; light, lid to lid ; inferior and slippy, Jd to Id per lb. Tallow.—There is no apparent change to note m the tone of the market since our last. A good demand continues to bo experienced, principally from local manufacturers, who purchase all produced at rates leaving no margin for shippers. We quote prime rendered mutton 18s (id to 19s (id: medium to good, l(is to 18s; inferior to medium, 13s to 15s; rough fat-best caul, 12s 9d to 13s (id inferior to medium and good, (Is to 12s b'd per cwt Grain.—Wheat: The wheat market, like others has been interfered with to a considerable extent by the holidays, but we expect to see it resume its previous tone immediately buyers have had their spell. Meantime, however, dullness prevails, and transactions are not extensive, being wholly confined to the execution of milling orders; ana millers being pretty fully stocked with flour and content to work off the balance of their wheat stock, consequently they merely buy when particular lines run short. Prime velvet is the only class in request, and with some of the mills now shut down there is less demand even for this description. Quotations: For prime milling velvet, 4s lOd to 5s Id ; best Tuscan (nominal), 4s 9d to 5s ; medium to good, 4s 4d to 4s 8d ; inferior to medium, 3s fid to 4s 3d ; broken, 2s-3d to 3s 3d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats: The market has again resumed its usual tone, but there is no great keenness on thepartof buyers to operate, although when sales are made prices obtaining immediately beforetheholidays are generally secured. Stocks in store, with the exception perhaps of a few lots of inferior, are now cleared out; and, with only a few coming forward, the supply is no more than sufficient for requirements. There is little or no demand for shipment to Australia, but we have buyers occasionally for the Home market, who, at the moment, however, arc unable to purchase at any advance ou late quotations, which we may again give :—For best milling, Is Sid to Is Bid—extra prime Jd more; best short bright feed, Is 7-W to Is Sd; medium, Is (ildtols7id ; inferior, Is 5d to Is Cd (ex store, sacks extra, net cash ; 3d per bushel extra f.o.b. Dunedin).— Barley lias little or no demand, but it may be noted that the market is almost clear of all sorts, so that at the moment there is no business of any consequence passing. Quotations nominal—say, for best maltfns, 2s lOd to 3s; medium, 2s 7d to 2s 9d; feed and milling, 2s 4d to. 2s b'd (ex store, sacks extra, terms). Grass Seeds.—The market is quiet, and no indications of any activity likely to spring up in the near future. Advices from Canterbury give new ryegrass seed (farmers' dressed) as being worth from 2s (id to 3s, showiug a considerable drop from .prices ruling here at the beginning of last season. There being no sales of any consequence and noiie of the new seed yet on the market, we refrain from quoting. Potatoes.—The supply is in excess of the demand, and prices, again lower, 60s to 70s per ton for fresh kidneys being the ruling rates. Chaff. —The supply continues bare; prices are in consequence firmer. Best is worth.67s 6d to 70s; medium, 55s to 65s per ton. Dairy Produce.—Locally the market is very quiet, and but for the export trade to the old country, mainly on producers' account, business would be almost at a standstill. Quotations are unchanged—say, for best dairy-made butter, in kegs, 6d to 7d; factory-made, lOd to lid per lb ; factory-made cheese, medium size, 4d to 4>jd; loaf shape, 4id to 5d per lb. Flax.—The market is steady at late quotations, and no difficulty in placing consignments when well got up, properly dressed, bright, and soft, for which we secure LlB 10s to L2O per ton; medium to good, Ll6los to L18; inferior, Ll3loa oLMIOs. '

GRAIN AND WOOL REPORT.

Messrs William E. Reynolds and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending January 13, as follows :—

The weather during the past week has been a mixture of sunshine and rain, but the latter predominated, and what fell on Saturday evening did considerable damage to the crops oil heavy land.

" Wheat.^The market is in a state of inactivity, as millers have heavy stocks of Hour, and will not purchase any till these are worked off, so that quotations are practically nominal. The Honie market, too, has gone back Is a quarter during the' week, and a dull market now exists. We quote prime milling velvet and Tuscan, 4s 9d to 4s lid; ordinary, 4s 7d to 4s 8d; inferior and fowls' feed, 3s 6d to 4s 3d. . Oats.—Recent cable advices from Home have been very discouraging to shippers, as the market has gone back about Is 6d a quarter, and as a result spot speculators are chary of giving anything like recent prices. The Australian markets, too, do'not show any change for thebetter, consequently shipments there are stoppeJl. We quote prime milling, Is Mto Is Bid; bright heavy feed, Is 7Jd to Is 8d ; ordinary, Is 6d to Is 7d. Barley.—There are no transactions to record, while the demand is nil, so give no quotations. Chaff —The market was very bare a few days ago, and as high as L3 10s was obtainable, but extra quantity arrived, and prices may now be said to bo L3 5a to L3 7s 6d for prime,, and L2l7s 6d to L3 for ordinary. Potatoes.—Market still glutted, both with north and local ones, and prices show no change; L3los is the highest going for kidneys. Wool.—Our first sale of the season was held on the 7th inst., before a large attendance of both local and Home buyers, and we were successful in» quitting our catalogue at the highest prices obtainable. The buyers showed their appreciation of the departure by us in doing away with the de-' livery charge. The competition at this sale was more than at the former, and consequently a decided improvement in prices was noticeable, competition being centred in fine, light-conditioned half breds, for which up to 12d was obtained. Fair to good halfbred brought 8d to 9id, while for coarse sorts 7d to BJd, Leicester and" Lincoln from S^d to Bd. Merinos caused the lion's share of animation, and prices were considerably over last sales' prices, as much as 10id being got for one clip, ordinary fine sorts ruled up to lOd, while for heavy, greasy, and sandy lots 5Jd to Bd. Our next sale takes place on the 28th, at which we shall have a very large catalogue, as already several large large lots are forward. Wool, however, to be catalogued for this sale will have to bo forward by the 23rd.
