CONCERT AT CAVERSHAM.

Tbere was a fair attendance at the Caversham Council Chambers last evening, when the concert which was given a week or so ago in aid of the picnic funds of the Caversham School was repeated. The first part of the programme was of a varied nature, and was evidently appreciated by the audience. Misses Mill and Alexander contributed a pianoforte duet, Mr D. Stephenson a recitation, and Master R. Popham went through a step dance. Miss Sligo rendered " Jessie's dream," and Mr E. Smith '' The boatswain's yarn." The followihg songs, which partook of a humorous nature, and contained local allusions, were also sung:—" St. Clair's fight with the sea," Mr J. Rennie ; " That prodigal," Mr John Aitcheson; and " Two lovely black eyes,' Mr R. Caldow. The second part of the entertainment was devotedto a play, cleverly written hy Mr T. K. Sidey, and entitled " The Trials and Triumphs of the Caversham School Committee. The dramatis persona- were sustained as follows :—The chairman (Mr R. Rutherford), Mr J. Rennie; Mr Sidey, Mr T. Pearce; Mr Craig, Mr T. Caldow; Mr Grave, Mr AY. Don; Mr Frye, Mr T. Foote; Mr R. Slater, Mr AY. Bird; Mr Tennant, Mr G. Mitchell; Mr Milne (head master), Mr G. M'Laren. Each of the performers was so disguised as to resemble the particular member of the committee he represented, and many episodes in the committee's career during the last year were brought before the audience in a laughable manner, the now somewhat celebrated dispute between the committee and the borough council being especially referred to in a manner that created roars of laughter. Two songs were also introduced. During the evening Miss Mill satisfactorily fulfilled the duties of accompaniste.
