ERRONEOUS STATEMENTS. TO T HE EDITOR.

Sib,—l see that at a recent meeting of the Ocean Beach Domain Board, Mr Gourley said that the breach at St. Clair had, within the last two years, sunk 15ft. It has sunk about 3ft in that time, but to talk about 15ft is preposterous nonsense. The same gentleman also said that the erection cf the batteries had destroyed the beach by causing tbe sand to go away. Maybe, bnt the St, Clair battery cannot have anything to do with it, nor can the Lawyer's Head one, and as for the Ocean Beach battery there is at present rather more sand in its vicinity than tbere was when tbe battery was erected. Mr Whiteis quite right in his contention that the batteries had nothing to do with causing the recent inundation at St. Kilda. Mr Gourley is probably not aware that the water came through at the same place before the batteries wero thought of.—l am, &c„ St. Clair, June 20
