POLICE SUPERANNUATION.

TO TUB EDITOE. Sin,—lt is to be hoped tho superannuation scheme outlined in your issue this morning will bo favourably considered by tho Government, for it H clear that some such provision must be made for the police, seeing that it has been found neoeesary to establish some sort of pension fund for them in almost every civilised country in the world. Regarding this matter Mr Fish, M.H.R., pointed out inter alia last session that the police reward fund could bo used for the purpose of forming a superannuation fund, and the Defence Minister promised to consider tho proposal. Now, by this time there must be a considerable sum of monoy in the reward fund, as all fines for breaches of tho police regulations are paid into it. Out of this fund awards were paid to members of the force for meritorious oonduot until the advent of Captain Russell, who notified the force that no further rewards would be paid out of the fund without, however, condescending to intimate how it was to be administered iv future. However, the money should now be available to assist in forming a superannuation fund that will place the police on an equal footing with the forces in Australia.—l am, &c, Dunedin, May 13. Bx-C.
