MORE RETRENCHMENT.
EXTENSIVE REDUCTIONS.

Wellington, April 17. The Government have decided on making further retrenchment, and the services of a number of officers throughout the colony ia the Survey, Stock, and Lands departments are to be dispensed with. The saving is estimated at £9009 per annum. The details will not be permitted to be made public until those retrenched receive notice from the Government.
The savings effected in the Stock department will be £2500 per annum. Ten inspectors and one clerk are to be dispensed with. The Land and Survey department are to be amalgamated, and Mr Eliott (Under-secretary for Lands and Mineß) is to take the UnderBeeretaryship of Mines only. Thirty-three officers of the Lands department throughout the colony are to be retrenched, and 12 others to be transferred. The saving.) in the Land and Survey departments will ba £6500 per annum. The compensation to be paid in the Land, Stock, and Survey departments amounts to £4000.
Ths stock districts are to be enlarged. Twelve officers of the Crown Lands and Survey department are to be transferred, including the following five chief inspectors !—Mr Humphreys (Auckland), Mr Marchant (Wellington), Mr Baker (Christchurch), Mr Mueller (Westland), Bnd Mr Spence (Ipvercargill). Their destinations are not yet desided on. The services of five Native Land Court judges are also to be dispensed with. It is calculated the total savings effected by the retrenchment of the present Government so far amounts to £50,000 per annum. It is intended to divide the North Island for the purposes of the Native Lands Court into circuits, each in charge of ope judge. The Justice department is to be dealt with in a day or two.
