The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the South Dunedin Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. There were present—Tho mayor (Mr M. BHia calling attention to the increased difficulty in carrying out his contract for removal of nightsoil, owing to the action of the Carters' Union, whioh would involve him in a loss of £65, and asking the council to confer with him on the Eubject.—The Mayor said that the proper course for Ellis to pursue was to lay the matter before the Carters' Union, The contract had been taken for three years, 18 months of which had run. The counoil had no power to do anything ia the matter.—Several councillors concurred in that opinion, and considered it unfair for the Carters' Union to interfere with a current contract.—The Mayob did not think that If the union knew the circumstances they would be hard upon the contractor.—After some discuseion the mutter was referred to the Sanitary Committee to report. From the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, requesting the council to supply, for the information of the Chamber of Commerce, the valuo of a rate of Id in the pound in their borough.—The olerk was Instructed to give the information required. From Richard Whitty, asking permlceion to get a few loads of rotten rook, and tor pipes to put in fa cronsing.—The inspector was instructed to havcthe work done, BKPORTS. The Finance Committee recommended that accounts as follows be passed for payment:—Municipal account, £37 7s j loan account, £70 Is 4d; and water supply account, £75 Is ; total, £IS2 Ds 4d.— PASBed. The Work? Committea reported that they had accepted the tender of W.
