THE PRICE OF MEAT.
TO THE EDITOB. <
Sin,—ln your issue of to-day's date you remark that it is very singular the butchers of Dunedin and suburbs have raised the price of beef Id per lb while the report of the sales at Burnside published on Thursday Bhowed. a decline of 103 to 20s per head on prime quality, and 25s to 30s on medium and inferior; but if you look at the weekly reports for the last two or three months you will see that there has been a steidy increase in the value of fat stock every week. Although the market happened to be overstocked this week, it is more than likely that there will be a short supply next week and stock realise last week's prices, which were exceptionally high. : ■ * In conclusion, I must say that if the butchers were to pay as much for their stock as they have been doing lately, and sell it at the present prices, they would lose Id per lb on all the meat they sell, excepting best joints.—l am, &c, .
