THE OTAGO HOUNDS.

Having heard that the Otago hounds would hold the first meet of the season at Mrs Jones', Woodeaton. on Faturday next, accompanied by a friend who is a bit of a sport I paid a visit to the kennels at St. Kilda on Tuesday last. On arrival we were courteously received by thai knight of the pigskin, Mr John Poole, who at once conducted us over the establishment, which with late improvements ana additions has now assumed rather large dimensions Tho hounds were looking in capital condition, and are a fine, level looking lo , mustering 15 couples, and are daily exercißed on the beach and hills abound. . They have been reinferced-by drafts from the best packs in Canterbury and Victoria. The kennels are a great improvement on" the old ones, being more spacious, and there is also adjoining a fine run for the dogs, enclosed with wire netting. A feature of the kennel and surroundings was the sc:upulou« elenuline6s that prevailed, and indeed, with Poole, it could Boarcely be different. We also inspected the new costumes of the Huntsman and whip, which are Al, The etud will be augmented by a couple of timbertoppers from the North, but for the present the trusty Turk and Putens will have to do duty. Mr John Poola as huntsman and Frank Smith as whip will leave nothing to le withod for on the tcore of management; and we left fooling convinced that all that was necessary for a successful eeasoii was the kind co-operation of landowners and lha Bupport of a few good followers. -^_____ KmnoD.
