The estate of Mr James Mirams, secretary of the Permanent Building Association, which recently closed its doors, has been Dlaced in liquidation. His liabilities are set down at £373,000; assets, £370,000.
CHILDREN IN THEATRES.
Two leading theatrical firms have been fined for employing children of tender years in their theatres.
THW BATHURST RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Sydney, May 1.

At the inquest on those killed in the recent railway accident at Bathurst a verdict was returned that the cause was accidental. A rider was added recommending the use of side-couplings, pending the fitting of rolling stock with strong gear.
A VALUABLE FIND.
A discovery of white marble has been made at Casino, a town on the Richmond river, 505 miles north of Sydney, and is pronounced to bo equal to the finest marble obtained from Carrara or Spain.

A COURT-MARTIAL.
The court-martial on the ringleaders connected with tlic alleged mutiny on board 11.M.8. Egeria has been commenced.
At tho court-martial Allan, a second-class petty-ollicer of H.M.S. Egeria, accused of taking part in a mutiny among the men, was sentenced to five years' penal servitude. Another case will be hoard to-morrow, and live more on Saturday.
A SURPLUS.

Tho Colonial Treasurer stated in tho House oE Assembly this afternoon that for the first four months of the year a surplus of £128,000 was shown.
SPORTING. The weights lor the Birthday Cup will not be declared before Monday next.
A DISPUTED WILL.
Simpson, a distant relative of the lato Mr David Berry, the millionaire, lias lodged a caveat against probate being granted to Mr John Hay on the ground that at tho time of making tho will tho testator was not in a sound state of mind. Under deceased's wills tho Coalangatta estate was left to Mr Hay.

The Premier has asked Sir Henry Norman, Governor of Queensland, to request Admiral Lord Scott to thoroughly survey Torres Straits, as it is feared there may be other unknown rocks there.
