EARLY GROCERS.
TO THE EDITOH. Sir,—Christchurch is threatened with n grocery famine—not through any scarcity of groceries, but owing to the fact of the grocers having given notice that their shops will be closed at G p.m. daily, Saturday included, on and after the Ist of May next. This is due to the action of the Canterbury Grocers' Association ordering all ttra"r shops to close nt that hour, and as they control nine out of every 10 the inconvenience of the arrangement may eaßily bo imagined. Tho public nre indignant at bairn? dictated to as to what time in the day they chall do their shopping, and will certainly support new chops which are not under the thumb of the C.G A. Therefore let five or six enterprising young Duned'n grocers open thops in Ohrißtchurch and suburbs, and they will be well supported. This is one of those tides in the affairs of men which, If taken at the flood, will certainly lead to success if not to fortune.—l am. &c, Christchurch. April 26. F. Issebvj-ood. [Our correspondent forma as false an impression of the Dunedin grocers aj of tho Christchurch customers. The movement of tho Ohristchurch grocers deserves overy support, and wo are sure their customers will not allow them to be in any considerable degree tho losers by It.—Ed. O. D. T.]
