The Australian bishops are now sitting for the purpose of terminating the difficulty over the election to the primacy. Up to the present only one name has; been submitted— viz., that of Canon Saumarez Smith—but the ordinance requires that three names must be submitted. It has been suggested that legal advice should be obtained from England, and to that end the sitting wa3 adjourned till to-day. (Recoived March 21, at 1.5 a.m.) A meeting of bishops resolved that it would best serve the interests of the church by oon- | curring in the election of Canon Saumarez Smith to the primacy of Australia. The committee endorsed tho resolution. ASSAULTS ON WOMEN. Several serious assaults on women in this city have been reported to the police, who believe them to be the work of a lunatic.
