RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

John M'Lennan and Catherine M'Lemum (Maori Hill).-Claim 14s 6d, for dressmaking and material supplied to the wife of riefeiidaut who stated that he had advertised thpt he would not be responsible for any debts contracted by hie wife. Cook for defendant-Mr Cook pointed out to the bench that a jiidtmr-ut summons was heard in September lat by Mr Carew and this was a renewal of the thing. He would suggest tiiat the cneo be adjourntd so as to como before Mr Carew, as if their Worships took it they would be sitting in judgment on Mr Carew's iudi;-ment.-Mr Macdonald ooposcd the adjournment. Till last Septembsr Mr M'Gavin never took any steps against defendant. The debt was contracted in 1882 and defendant had never paid a sinirle nenuv of it. The judgment summons was takarr oiit, and it was for their Worships tj say whether defendant Simula not have paid the money long before this.
