Tho New Zealand Lo,ia and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) liavo received the following telegram fjom their London ofllco, dated Bth lust :— "Tallow: Market depressed since last report, prlceß Jjavodeclined (id ]ier owt. Frozen Meats: Mutton market quiet. Canterbury mutton is worth sjd ; Wellington, 5d per lb Beef: Market depressed. New Zealand beef, hind quarters, are.-worth 4jd per lb." We have received from tho agents, Messrs NelU and Co. (Limited), a copy of the report of the United Insurance Compauy for the year ended 30th September 1839. The total receipts from fire and marine premlumß'and interest were £69,951. from which is deducted losses, reinsurances, expenses, So , £53,202, leaving £11,718 as profit for the year. To this la added the balance brought forward, £14,083, making a total availablebalanceof £25,831, Their usual 20per cent, dividend disposes of £7500, £1000 is added to reserve fond, and £11,331 is oarried forward. The reserve iunds and undivided profits now amount to £83,331, while tho paid-up capital Is only £37,500. 1 The amount subscribed is £300,000 with unlimited liability of shareholders. A. Ohiistchurch telegram states that at an auction sale of land at Lake Ellesmere district, which has been roclalmed by the works recontly constructed by the Government, out of 86 sections submitted 48 were sold, realising £11 ,'l7O. Tho remaining Bectlons failed to realise the upset. Messrs Henry W, l*eabody and Co. report, under date Boston, October 12:—" Trade continues good, and'a steady activity appears to characterise nearly all departments of business. Some lines are quint, but there is but little dullness anywhere, and a healthful absence of speculation in the prominent staple) gives encouragement of continued strength. A good many lines have advanced, notably iron. Kerosene has been quiet throughout the month, the crude market having Bhowu no Bpecial signs of life, and within the pait week a decline of 10 points has taken place In refined case oil. Wo quote present basis 9c for HOdegtest low sorew hi 10,000 case lots. Shipments to the colonies have been as follows :— Adelaide, 9830 cases! Melbourne, 37.850 onsea; Sydney, 9500 cases; Brisbane, 7000 caseo; Hobart, 2700 cases. Casualty: Barque Ooncordia, from Now York for Dunedin, September 3, put baok to New York the 14th, having been damaged In the severe gale which at that time swept the North Atlantic. 6ho repaired and again sailed from New York September 23."

Mr John Qbindlki' (on behalf of the Farmers' Agency Company, Limited) reports having held his mual woiikiy sale at their new stores, Cumberland strost, yesterday. Thore was a fair attendance of buyers. Bidding was quiet, and last week's prices barely maintained, the fall ranging from Id to 2d per bushel. The followiug were ihe lots sold:—102 tacks, Is lid; 210, 2s; JO, Is lOd; 02, Is lUd; CO, la lid; 120, Is Kd; ISO, Is lOd; 50, Is lid; 350, Is 11 Jd; 320, Is 10d-bag3 charged 6d extra. Potatoes ranged from 32s tid to 70s ; chaff, 27s (3d to 52s tid ; fowl wheat, 2s 8d to 2s lOd.
