PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The regular fortnightly meeting of the above counoil was held yestorday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr E. G. Allen), Councillors M'Kenzie, Pullar, Watson, Schumacher, Bead, Murray, Innes. Mitehell, Pedlow, Gardner, and Perry. CORHKSPONDENCE. Mr Durham, secretary of the school committee, wrote requesting the use of the new Town Hall free of charge for a limelight exhibition In aid of the school funds.- Granted ou condition that the school committee pay for the gas consumed. Mr P. Black, secretory of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, aud Mr A. Burns, secretary of the Duuedin Hospital, wrote in reference to the annual .election of members for the Charitablo Aid and Hospital Boards.—Mr J. H. Monson was requested to represent the borough. Mr G. H. Cooper, for the Colonial Secretary, wrote intimating that the counter petition in connection with the annexationof Mansford Town was duly presented to his Excellency the Governor, who has decided not to Issuo a proclamation incorporating the said lands into the Borough of Port Chalmers.— Received.

Mr J. Watson, secretary Otago Dock Trust, wrote asking if the trust could be accommodated with an office in the new buildings, and what rßnt would ba required.—Referred to the Building Committee to report. THB HKW TOWN HALL. Cr SoHUMAOnan, as a candidate for the mayoralty, asked if he could not have tho use of the hall to address the ratepayers free.—Cr M'Kknzib considered that any other citizen had as much right to the use of the hall free as any person Btending for either the mayoralty or councillor.-Several councillors having spoken, the matter dropped until the Buildiag Committee had furnished a report.

RKPOBIS. The Works Committee reported that since the last meeting th« inspector and staff had been engaged, with the assistance of some of the railway surfacemen, opcuiog and repairing the box drain leading from Beach street to to the outlet at the cross wharf; also, mixing asphalt aud aophalting path from the weighbridge to the dock gates They recommended that, a drain ba put in across Magnetic street, oppo»ite to Mr Kosa'section, to empty into Wiokliffe terrace; also, that the old fireball stand be taken down, aud the weighbridge office repainted; and that a stone crossing be laid from tho weighbridge to the post office corner.—Adopted. The Finance Committee recommended sundry accounts, amounting to £92 Is, for payment.— Adopted. OVKKDUE BATES. Cr PULLAR stated that the time having expired for the payment ol rateß, rent, kerblng charges, (to., and there being still accounts outstanding, the Finance Committee thought it would bo advisable to summon those councillors flißt who were in arrears.—Cr Watson moved and Cr Qaudskk seconded—" That the names o« all in arrears be placed in the ballot box. and the first 30 drawn be sued, after seven days' notice from the town clerk.— Carried.
