Owing to the liberality of the contributions from Australia, money is plentiful. September 11 (Received September 13, at 1.30 a.m.) Cardinal Manning is trying to arrange that the increase conceded to the men by the dock companies shall begin on November Ist instead o£ January, as the directors stipulated. The New Zealand Shipping Company intend to sue the Dock Companies for £1000 damages on account of the detention ef the Ruapehu. The Firemen and Sailors' unions have announced that in future they will only permit the refrigerator engineers to work on New Zealand frozen meat cargoes, and that only on condition they are not touched until the strike is over.
