SPECIAL MEETING.
The adjourned special meeting to consider the balance sheet was then held.
Cr Kuibell, who at last meeting moved than consideration of the balance sheet should be postponed for a fortnight, said ho had looked over the accounts, and he saw (hat although the council had transferred £10.000 from the gas account to the general account, they had only reduced their overdraft by ! £7506. They had spent over their income £2428, and it was noticeable that for a number of years past thc-y had been going back. The sooner some councillor plucked up courage enough to move that an, increased rate was necessary the bttter. Cr Solomon : Why don't you move it yourself ? Cr Bahkon: He has not plucked up courage.— (Laughter.) , . Cr Cohen said lie did not think the councillors were there to listen to a sort of financial statement, the question was whether or not the balance sheet Cr Sinclair moved—" That the balance sheet be adr.pted, and that the maj or be empowered to sign the same. Cr Chamosd seconded the motion, which wbb carried. The council adjourned at 9.45 p.m.
