The Onehunga ironworks are now sending a good deal of bar iron South. They are importing sheet rollers and workmen from Pennsylvania by the next San Francisco steamer to commence the manufacture of corrugated iron, fee. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES. Mr C. S. Wright, valuer of friendly societies, Auckland district, in being interviewed respecting the annual report of tae registrar, stated that he endorsed the opinion expressed therein that institutions are insufficient to meet the demand which may be made upon them. Westfobt, June 27. PRESENTATION. A presentation of a gold watch and chain was made this evening to Mr Patrick O'Brien, who has been instrumental in opening up the Fairmaid Gold Mining Company's ground at Addison's. Amongst the toasts honoured was that of Dunedin shareholders. The enterprise of Dunedin people in investing in local gold mining was highly spoken of.
