OUR FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
The most prominent industry iv the colony at present is undoubtedly tho frozen meat trade,
an industry of c. character most important to all classes oi tbo inhabitants of Ntw Zealand, which is par excellence a mutton-producing country. Its cl'mate is so favourable that it produces that clas* of mutton most suitable for the English and Continental markets. From time to time we have had brought before our notice the production and opposition of the South American nifirlc«tr, but (he communications between New Zealand and the mother country arc of such acharacter that mutton fed on our pastures can b.i placed before the English public in the greatest perfection. The magnificent steamers Tongariro and Fifeshire, which left Port Chalmers on January 26, took away in their refrigerating chambers some of the primest meat that has ever left New Zealand.
