CLUTHA COUNTY COUNCIL.
to 'nil: editor. Sir.—l tr.w by jotir issue of the J3tli iust. tiK't a M-riMjler, under the ;:om de plume of " Ratepayer," attacks the doings of the Clutha County Council in connection with reducing the engineer's salary and giving all printing and advertising to the only paper printed in the county —viz., the Pupotunoa Chronicle, stating in connection with the latter that not nincteentwentieths of the ratepayers eec that journal. Now, Sir, for the information of " Ratepayer " I may inform him that the majority of the ratepayers endorse what the council has done with their sanction, and are quite satisfied with their retrenchment policy. As far as regards the circulation of the I'opotunoa Chronicle, no doubt "Ratepayer" is grieved. It was a little too much for him and his " gang " during the late elections for the House of Assembly, and was the principal medium through which the breaking up of a certain clique was advocated. —
D. V. Stock, Proprietor I'opotunoa Chronicle Cliuto.", February 21.
