SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
A meeting of tho School Commissioners of Otago held yesterday morning was attended by Mr J. T. Maitland (in the chair), Hons. Dr Menzies aud Reynolds, and Messrs James Green and Pearson. Memns. were read from the Education department, Wellington, informing the commissioners I that an Order-in-Council had been issued declaring them subject to the Public Bodies Powers Act, as requested. The consideration of a number of applications for reductions in rentwas adjourned uutii reports oil each case could be obtained. A report was read from Mr J. S. Royds announcing result of sale of the educational reserves leases at luvereargill on the 23th idt. Consideration of an application for purchase of part of several sections at Akatore was deferred. A letter was read from Mr J. Squires, Riversdale, suggesting that the area of 5000 acres about to be opened up for settlement on run 194, Waikaia, be offered for sale by auction instead of by ballot.—Consideration of tho mode of dealing witb the block referred to was deferred until survey was completed. Accounts amounting to £63 9s lOd were passed for payment.
