Wellington, January 10. A little girl named Susan Dome, aged eight and a-half years, had a miraculous escape from beiug drowned in the Upper Hutt river yesterday. While wading across she was swept away by tho rapid current. Her father went to the rescue, but, beiug unable to swim, was powerless to save his daughter. The child was swept down tho river about loOyds, when sho was caught by a snag. Her brother, aged 11, then swam off to her rescue, and placing a rope round her, she was pulled ashore in an exhausted condition. The Exhibition Commissioners have received intimation, in reply to their cablegram to Melbourne, that entries for the ISB7 wool clip will be received up to such time as will suit the New Zealand commission.

The boats belonging to tho squadron wore indulged in torpedo practice to-day. His Excellency the Governor made a visit to the squadron this morning, and was received on board the Nelson by Rear-admiral Fairfax. Sir William Jervois was accompanied by the Hon. Captain Fortescue, A.D.G., anil Major Jervoi?, private secretary.
