DUNEDIN CHESS AND DRAUGHTS CLUB.
There was a pretty good attendance at the club room, Baldwin Hotel, last night, and both chessand draughts were freely indulged iv. The next event in connection with the club is the telegraphic ebees match with the Invercargill Chess Club. A good deal of interest is being taken in the event, and the club will be able to put a pretty strong team in the field. The match commences on Saturday first, and the players meet in the telegraph office punctually at 5.15 pm. There will probably be nine players a-side. Mr David E. Hay captains the team. A match has also been arranged with . the Timaru Chess Club, nnd it will probably take place iv about six or seven weeks, or shortly after the match which is now being arranged between the Timaru and Canterbury Chtss Cluba. It will thus be seen that chess is becoming more popular than ever, and we are glad to learn that seveial very strong chess players have joined the above club recently. A chess handicap tournament will shortly take place, so the present is a favourable time for those desirous of engaging in this interesting tourney for joining the club. We hope to hear of a fresh accession of chess members.
