ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A lodger at the White Horse Hotel, George sUvot, named Thomas Chevalier Robinson, died suddenly during the night between S.mday and Monday. It appears that, the landlord of the house, Mr John Toomey, found the deceased lying dead on the lloor of his room at 11 o'clock on Sunday morning. lie had been stajing iv tho house for six months. Mr Toomey last saw him alive at (J p.m. on Sunday. He went to his bedroom because he did not sec him iv tho morning. Mr Joseph Toomey heard the deceased fall as he was going upstairs on the Sunday evening, and as he was under tho influence of liquor he assisted him upstairs. He made no complaint about being hurt. Tho decea ed was well known in Duuediu, having been engaged hawking about papers and working iv hotels. He appeared to be about GO years of age, and was at one time an oflicer in the Imperial army. He occasionally received remittances from Home, but dissipated the money.

The body of a mau was found in tho harbour to-day. It ii supposed to be that of a fisherman who has b-en missing since last week. Tho body found iv the harbour to-day has been identified as that of Charles Valientrator, well known as " Fat Charlie," a fisherman, who has been missing for the last threo weeks. A mau named John Marshman, a groom in the employ of Mr E. E. Dransiield, met with a serious accident at the hunt held on Mr Dunlop's farji, Hillcrest, Stjx, on Saturday afternoon through his horse falling in taking >i fence. Mr Dunlop took Marshman, who was unconscious, to his hou&e, and then to the Christchurch Hospital. No bones are broken, apparently, but tho unfortunate man has received concussion of the brpin and is in a critical conditiou.

Hokitika, July 18. A man named Thomas Ma-Mock was found dead yesterday at Greenstone from a gunshot wound, which is thought to have been the result of an accident. He was in charge of Ainsley's house and children during the absence of the parents, and so far as at present known took a loaded gun to go pigeon shooting. He slipped on the door, and the gun discharged into his head behind the ear. He told the children to inform the neighbours, who. on arriving, found the man quite dead. _^^_______^_^_
