SENIOR CUP MATCHES. Phcenix v. Grange.

The above match was started on the ground of the former on Saturday, and thus far is decidedly in favour of the Grange. Phcenix winning the toss decided to bat, but cut a sorry figure to the bowling of P. Turnbull and W. Carson. Both succeeded in getting considerable spin on. From his altered style, I judge Carson has found it most profitable to cultivate the spin from the off, so much practised by the leading bowlers, and so destructive to unwary batsmen. For the Phoenix, Harris appeared the only one capable of securing wickets; Frith, Montgomery, and Moore being somewhat off colour. The feature of the match was the batting of Parker; his 43 was made by good cricket. Grieve was taken early at the wickets by Niven, who, by the way, took the bowling capitally. It may not be out of place to call attention to Parker's defection from the Albion aud his joining the Grange. For the former he has played in several cup matches this season. Doubtless the Cup Committee will have something to say in the matter, seeing that they ruled Parker ineligible to play for any but the Albion Club" for the present season. The wicket was an excellent one, as also that of the second eleven. 'Scores:— PiiffiNix.—First Innings.
