Public Notices. rjIHE BLUE EIBBON OF THE FIELD. THB PRIZE OF THE.1686 SEASON. THB GRAND NATIONAL MEDAL for Harvesting Machinery was won dn December 14, 1886, at Shepparton, Victoria, by tbe "BUCKEYE," in competition with machines of all the best makers. A grand display of all the crack reapers and binder* was exhibited at the Agricultural Show held at Shepparton in October last, when the prize of the year, if awarded at all, could only have been Ur appearance and not for use, there being at that time no crop ready for cutting. The BUCKEYE being essentially a working , machine in addition to possessing a very high mechanical finish, the agents for the manufacturers protested against any award being made for appearances only, preferring an Open Field Trial, in whicii the qualities claimed for each machine might be fairly tested in competition in the presence of skilled judges aud interested witnesses. They did not want the prize merely because their machine might be adjudged to look " the prettiest," but on the ground of its being the Farmers' Best Friend as a harvester and on the possession of qualities which have procured for it the reputation of being the best machine of its kind ever produced.. The trial at Shepparton has substantiated their claim and placed the BUCKhYE in possession of the Blue Ribbon of the Field in Victoria, the Grand National Medal—one more of the highest awards attainable to be added to the already long list of those which have made the word "BUCKEYE" bo well known in all parts of the agricultural world.
