FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
At a meeting of the Sports Committee in connection with the forthcoming fire brigades' demonstration, which was held ou Thursday evening; Mr John Carroll presided.-
The secretafy vtes instructed to inform the secretary of the Melbourne Fire Brigades' Demonstration that it was now too late to filter tbe date of the Dunedin demonstration.
The collectors for High Ward reported that they had received prizes from Messrs P. Hayman ahd Messrs Silver6ton and Co. The committee suggested that no more prizes bo accepted, as the list was full, but, on account of the heavy expenses in carrying out the anangements, they request money donations from those willing to give. It was left to the chairman to prociire two cups for the hose and hydrant race for two men.
A number of gentlemen were appointed to act as judges, timekeepers, and other positions in connection with the demonstration: and Messrs Murray, Robertson, Burman, and Blagdon were appointed a committee to carry out arrangements for billeting the visiting brigades.
It was decided to draw for the order in which the teams should compete, and in the three chief events the result was:—Hose practice, to be run in pairs (five men): Temuka v. Giore and Gordon ; Napier v. Standard Brewery (Sydney) ; Roslyn v. Naseby; New Plymouth v. Gisborne; New Zealand Railways v. Balmain (Sydney); Hokitika v. South Dunedin; Wanganui v. South InvercargiU; Invercargill (city) v. Rangiora; Hastings v. Ashburton; Marton v. Nelson; Dunedin (city) v. Spit. Engine practice (five men) : Roslyn, Standard Brewery, Spit, Ashburton, New Zealand Railways, Naseby, Hastings, South InvercargiU, Dunedin (city), Balmain, Nelson, Wanganui, Gisborne, Temuka, Hokitika, South Dunedin, Marton, Napier, New Plymouth, Gore and Gordon, Rangiora, Invercargill (city). Hose and ladder practice (five men): New Zealand Railways; Dunedin (city); Temuka, Standard Brewery, South Dunedin, Balmain; Gofe.and Gordon, Hastings, Ashburton, Rangiora, Nelson, Spit, New Plymouth, Invercargill (city), Gisborne, Wanganui, Naseby, Hokitika, South InvercargiU, Napier, Marton, Roslyn.
