NATIVE OUTRAGE.
(Per United Press Association.) Auckland, November 13. The mail steamer Island brings news of native outrages on board the Auckland schooner Jessie Nicol. On August 24, while at anchor in Raratonga harbour, at 11 p.m., some of tho natives boarded the schooner and began to annoy the crew. The cook, who was on deck with a son of the captain, was the first attacked. He was rendered unconscious by a blow on the head, and brutally kicked. Captain Short and the crew rushed on deck, but being without weapons, and greatly outnumbered, they got separated and were all badly maltreated. Makea Taus, King of Atiau, and consort of the Queen Makea, of Raratonga, was with the natives, and incited them to outrage, shouting " Kill the white pigs." This king visited Auckland last year, and was entertained at Government expense. After doing a lot of damage and purloining some stores the natives wont ashore and had a feast. Complaint was made to the British consul at Raratonga, who fined Makea Taus 200dol, and ordered him to find substitutes for several injured men who had been left ashore. The cook's condition was so critical that his depositions were taken, but ho has since recovered. H.M.S. Pelican has visited the group, and compelled payment of the line. She also exacted a line of 300dol from tbo natives of Mitiado Island, who last August committed an outrage on the captain of the Auckland schooner Atlantic, by tying him to a tree. Captain Shorts' narrative has been obtained, but lhe Jessie Nicol is expected to arrive at Auckland shortly. When tiie steamer left Tahiti Earl Dudley's steam yacht was there, en route for Auckland, Wellington, and Sydney ; also Dr Philp's schooner yacht Brenhilda, wliich is expected to visit this colony.
