This afternoon the details of the Budget proposals of the Government were still under discussion, in Committee, in the Legislative Assembly. The imposition of a 5 per cent, ad valorem duty on a number of articles hitherto admitted free, and the in crease of the present duty otherwise, are meeting with vigorous opposition from Sir Henry Parkes and his followers. Sir Henry threatens if the proposals are insisted on that he will do his utmost to force a dissolution. Sir John Robertson also expresses himself opposed to the proposals brought down by Sir Patrick Jennings.

The Mararoa has sailed for San Francisco via Auckland.
