AN ECCLESIASTICAL DISAGREEMENT.
Auckland, April 29.—An ecclesiastical row is on here, and there is no small amount ot grumbling amongst the laity of the Komau Catholic Church in reference to the removal of Father "Walter M'Donald to Howick and Paumure, which has been ordered by Bishop Luck. Forty laymen waited ou Bishop Luck at his residence and remonstrated against the removal. The Bishop, after hearing the statements of the deputation, said he had directed Father Walter to be removed from Auckland to Howick and Panmure in the interests of the church and diocese—for which he was responsible, and not the members of the deputation. Some very warm language was used, and Bishop Luck felt it due to himself to order one of the deputation to leave the room The deputation left without having received any satisfaction. A deputation of ladies also waited on Bishop Luck to urge that Father U alter should be retained in Auckland The appeal was quite in vain. The laity felt'themselves much aggrieved, and the turn of events will be watched with interest. The impression is that the intention is to place the diocese in the hands exclusively of Benedictines and curtail the influence and power of the secular clergy.
