SUICIDE.
On Saturday evening Inspector VVeldon received from the constable in charge at Waikouaiti a telegram stating that a swagger, name unknown, had been found dead, hanging- by the neck, in an empty house, about a mile from Waikouaiti township. Description : about 50 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 in. in height, medium build, grey hair, whiskers, and moustache; dressed in light tweed suit, dark tweed hat, and top coat; evidently from Christchuroh.
On Sunday Mr Weldon received another telegram, stating that amongst tbe man's effects was found a blue ribbon Gospel temperance ticket, signed "Robert Smith, at Dunedin, 10th April. 1835. Witness: J. Sewell, of Bible Depot, Dunedin." There was also found on a piece of paper the following address:—" Smith, blacksmith, Centre Bush, Lime Hills, Southland," An inquest will be held at 6.30 p.m. to-day.
