j Public Notices. ■\T^HITE'S LIMESTONE FILTERS. Dr LAMB'S TESIMONIAL. •10 High street, Dunedin, 16th April ISSG. Dear Sir,—l have much pleasure in recommendin" your Limestone Filter. Professor Maclagan, of Edinburgh, stales that the essentials to a good water are freedom from colour, taste, and smell, together with a moderate amount of lime salts, and only a very moderate amount, of organic matter. These essentials your Filter preeminently secures. And the late Professor Parkes, in his " Manual of Practical Hygiene,'' says that the total solids per gallon in a pure wholesome water should be Sgr, permitting an excess of carbonate of lime. Now. your best testimonial is that of Professor lilack's analysis, because he indicates clearly the advantages accruing from the use of your Limestone Filter. The water be' r« filtering, he sa3-s, has "rigv total solids per gallon, and after filtering 8-Bgr total solids per gallon. Mark that the increase is due chiefly to the carbonate of lime, which is permissible, according to Parkes; and especially mark that there is decrease in the organic matte)1, which is a decided gain. I would also 'draw attention to the fact that our Colonial drinlting waters are so notoriously deficient in lime salts that it is thought the early decay of the teeth and the softening of the bones in our children is greatly due to the defective supply of lime in their chief drink—viz., water. Hence the great advantage of using your Limestone Filter, that imparts the extra 2gr per gallon of carbonate of lime to the filtered water. I have one thing to say against your filter, and that is its slow action. But where a speedy or large supply is not requisite, I think your Limestone Filter should have the preference. I am, yours truly, WM. LAMB, M.U.O.M. (Edin.). TeMrW.M. White, Filter Manufacturer, Kensington, Dunedin. lflap rnHE HOTEL METEOPOLE, LONDON, S.W. Princes street south, I have been obliged, for the convenience of country customers and residents in the north end of Dunedin, to EXTEND my BUSINESS to premises more convenient. I beg to inform the Public generally that I have purchased that old-established and centrally-situated Business so long and successfully carried on by Messrs Howard and Raymond, and will continue it, under efficient management, in conjunction with my Old Business at 174 Princes street south, under the style or title of " The Central Pharmacy." The experience of the past teaches me that to continue my Business as in tho past—i.e., Direct Importing and Minimum of Profit—means almost unlimited success.
