WELLINGTON AUTUMN RACES.

For the second clay's races at the Hutt today the weather was flue uutil 4 o'clock in the afternoon, when light showers foil, but visitors were not inconvenienced. About 800 were present. The following are the results: — WAIWETU -HANDICAP, Of 70 soys j second horse 10 soys from the sHalce. Three-quarters of a mile. Mr Boyle's Vanity Fair, list 71b ... (Cheer) ' 1 Mr Harrison's Hagar, 6st 71b ... ... 2 Mr Tancred's Revoke, Bst 51b ... ... 3 Okato (7st 21b), The Shah (7st 62b), and Kakapo (6st 81b) also ran. Revoke and Vanity Fair were equal favourites.

From an indifferent start "Vaile took Revoke to the frout, Kakapo - being last. At the turn by the road all the horses, with the exception of Kakapo, were in a bunch, and the race to the straight was a very pretty one. There Vanity Fair shot out from the ruck, aud an exciting race resulted in Vanity Fair beating Hagar by half a length for first place; Revoke a bad third. Time, linin 16Jsec. Dividend, £2 16s. After going about 50yds from the second hurdle Freebooter fell and unseated Herd, who, however, quickly remouuted and went in pursuit of Secretary, who, by this time, had a lead of nearly half a mile. The effort, however, was too much for the horse, and Secretary j simply cantered in. Time, 3min 26£ see. Herd entered a protest against Secretary on the grounds of a cross, which the stewards allowed, aud awarded the stakes to Freebooter. They distanced Secretary, and disqualified Mitchell (the jockey) from riding again during the day.

Billy (Bst 101b), Miss Dargou (7st 71b), Fay (7st lib), Okato (Gst 31b), and Rollo (6st) also ran.

Hermitage was made a favourite at 2 to 1 on him, Titbit being next in demand.

From a capital start Titbit rushed to the front, with Rollo at his side, Silence nest, Hermitage being seventh. At'the back the same order was maintained, but the horses were pretty well together, and not more than a couple of lengths separated the first-from the last. At the road Silence and Titbit were racing together in front,. Rollo falling away beaten. Derritt now moved on the favourite and closed oh the leaders. As they turned into the straight Silence was at the head of affairs; but Hermitage coming fast on the outside soon wrested the position from him, and after a desperate race with Titbit, who also had passed Silence, won by half a length; Silence being a good third, Miss Dargon fourth, Fay fifth, and Billy, who pulled up lame, last. Dividend, £2 17s.

The Cavalry Race was won by Naurika, and the Hack Race by. The Shah. The latter was sold for £31 to Mr J. Saunders. CONSOLATION 11ACE, Of 30 soys. One mile.
