CAVERSELAM BAPTIST CHURCH
The second annual tea-meeting in connection with the Caversham Town Hall Baptist Church was attended last evem'Dg by about 250 persons, a number of ladies of the congregation presiding at the tea-tables. A public meeting was afterwards held, the hall being crowded. Tho RevCharles Carter, pastor of the church, presided, and addresses were delivered by the Revs. A. North and Nixon, Messrs J. G. .Frnser, M'Leau, and Cole. Musical selections were also given at intervals during the evening by the church choir, under the conductorship of Mr George Haase, the organist being Mr C. Clark. The annual church' report, which was read, stated that during tho past 12 months' of the Rev. Mr Carter's ministry tho work of the church had prospered in every department. There had been an increase of 14 members during the year, the numbeer of members now being 87. The Sunday-school was in a very flourishing condition, the number of scholars being 225 and the average attendance IGO ; while there was a staff of 22 teachers. The building at present used for chnrch purposes was bocoming inadequate to meet the demands of the congregation, and a new church site had been purchased at a cost of £100, upon which it was proposed to erect a church, About £050 would be required for this purpose. Of this amount £116 hud already been subscribed, and the financial ; committee were making arrangements to get further contributions. The current expenses of tho past year, met promptly by the congregation, had been i'27o, besides what had been contributed towards the organ fund. The" total receipts for the year were £302 5s 4d, and the expenditure £30115s Id—leaving a small balance in hand.
