<$ANTEKBURY Y.'OTAGO. The InJerprovincial cricket match was commenced on the Carisbrook ground on Saturday, under very favourable conditions as regards weather. It was a bright sunshiny day witha cool breeze blowing, and tho late rain had brought tho wicket itito first-class order. The gathering of spectators was, not numerous, probably owing to the fact that most people preferred to go farther afield to spend tho most popular general holiday of ihe year. Still some few hundred mustered on the ground in the course of the afternoon:' Canterbury started decided favourites this year, /being' kncwii to havo a particularly strong batting team, among them our ex-Otago player Crawshaw.
