THE WELLINGTON INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

(Per United Press Association.)

Wellington, July 13.

A large number of exhibits have now come to hand for the exhibition from different parts of the Colony. In the art department about 300 pictures have been received, and a start\yill be made at once to hang them.

With reference to the dissatisfaction regarding the appointing of judges, the following extract from the New Zealand Times explains the position in which the Committee on Textile Fabrics find themselves:—" There is a good deal of dissatisfaction in reference to -the appointment of jurors for the Exhibition. A meeting of tho Textile Fabrics, &c, and Clothing Committee was held a week ago. The matter was then discussed at some length, and an adjournment was decided upon in orderthat the committee might have some clearer conception of their duties with respect to appointing or nominating jurors. They met last night, and they appeared to be little wiser. A memorandum from Sir Julius Vogel was read, but-it left the situation rather more foggy than before. They were told they could nominate judges for the various classes of exhibits, but so could all the various local committees throughout the Colony, and so could every exhibitor as well. These nominations in turn would have to be submitted to the Local Committee, and after the gentlemen comprising the latter had windowed the wheat from the chaff,.they in turn would have to refer to the Executive Committee. Bewildered at this exposition, several members inquired why they were called into existence at all. Mr Callis told them they were to superintend the local exhibits, and to make any suggestion they thought advisable. Some efforts were again made to unravel the mystery about the Executive Committee. 'The Executive,' said Mr Richardson, 'appears to be Sir Julius Vogel.' That was the only solution offered. Many persons, however, imagine that Dr Hector is one of the mysterious body; It Is a pity that the duties of the various committees were not more clearly explained to them at tbe outset. A great deal of dissatisfaction miyht thus have been avoided. There has been little or no attempt to elicit enthusiasm, and much of the apathy which is apparent amongst the various committees is undoubtedly attributable to the way they have been treated by the mysterious Executive."
