PRESBYTERIAN UNION.
TO THE EDITOE. Sib,—ln your issue cf this morning I observe a letter signed "Loyal," and headed Behsarius begs an Obolua." I have noticed previous letters over the same signature, and wiitten in a like flippant style; but this last puts the others entirely in the shade. I feel humiliated that anyono occupying the wellknown position of the writer, whose identity can in no way be concealed under an anonymous signature, should allow him3elf to write in such a way on a Bubject deserving of coo), calm, and impartial consideration. I deprecate carrying into the discussion here the anger, wrath, and uncharitab'.eness displayed in the late controversy in Scotland over the union of the Free and United Presbyterian Churches—a controversy which made many of us old colonists ashamed to own kin with tho combatants. Certainly anyone who could actively oppoße the union- of the Scotch Churches, if transplanted to this Cobny, might be expected to bear with him the same spirit which engendered and carried on the unseemly strife, and to oppose with equal bitterness a union of the Churches here. I believe that the majority of the ministers of Canterbury and the North Island have not had the privilege of passing through the theological halls of the Free Church. Can it be-that this fact has anything to do with'the animosity and virulence displayed by your correspondent, not only under an anonymous signature, but openly in the courts of the Church here ? His letter reminds me forcibly of the old story, "No case; abuse the other side." I think it unworthy of further comment.—l am, &c, _ , , Pbesbytebian. September 25.
