ARRIVAL OF THE TAMSOJ.

■ The s.s. Tamsui, with the first of the new Fca3on's teas from Focchuw-foo, arrived at Port Chalmers at 9 ».m. yesterday. She is commanded by our old friend Captain Yardin, who had the e.s. Hoihow (one cf the game line) last year. The Tamsui, like her Bister, is owned by Mr J. S. Swire, of Bllliter street,London, and was built in 1880 by Messrs Scott and Co., of Grecnock, who also constructed .her engines, wnich are compound turface-condensing, t4 150-horse power nominal, the dimensions of the fiyUnde s being respectively 28in and 66in, with a length cf stroke of 42in. She is rigged as a fore-and-fili schooner, and is of the following dimemnns:— length, 550 ft 2io ; breadth of beam, 31ft 3in; depth flf hold, JJMt lin. lhe Tamsui brings 400 tons of cargo, and is consigned to Messrs Heill and <30. (Limited). We are indebted to Captain Yatdin for the following repott of her pasaage:—Bhe left Fooehow-foo on June 24, and carried fresh S.W, monsoons down to the equator, which was crossed on July 3in longitude 147 E. The schooner Janet Baoieay sailed down from Dunedin yesterday morning, and brought up in Mansford Bay. The Union Company's Bteamer Te Anau, from Sydney, via the East Coast portp, arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday at noon. She left Sydney at 5 p.m. on the 10th inst, had light variable winds and flno weather, and reached Auckland at 11.30 a.m. on the 15th inst.; called on the 17th at noon, and had fine weather until she reached Napier, whe^ she encountered a strong southerly gale, which continued until she arrived at Wellington at 2 a.m. on the 21st Inst.; was detained by bad weather at Wellington until 11 a.m. on the 22nd inst, when she left tor the South, had fine weather, and arrived at Lyttelton at S a.m. on the 23rd; left again at 4 p.m., and met strong B.W. winds with high seas to arrival. The b.p. Taiaroa sailed yesterday evening for Timaru.

The brigantine Marshall S was towed clear of the Heads yesterday afternoon, and sailed with cargo for .Auckland. The s.s. WaTtatipu, from Sydney, via Cook. Strait, »rri»ed at Port Chalmers > esterday afternoon. &he left Sydney wharf at 5 p.m. on the 16th inst., had strong southerly gales and high seas during the passage across, and breasted Cape Farewell at 1 a.m? on the 21st, passed Stephens Island at 7.10 a.m., and feached Wellington at 11.15 a.m. same day; left again fttl.3o p.m. on the 22nd inbt., and arrived at Lyttelton at 7 a.m on the 23.-d inst.; left for headquarters »t 3 45 p.m., had strong southerly winds and head aeas down the coast, and arrived in port at 1.10 p.m. yesterday.
