LICENCING ELECTIONS AT AUCKLAND.

Auckland, February 20. The temperance psople are jubilant over yeatorday's victory, having cards printed to commemorate the event. The temperance commissioners intend meeting tho commissioners for the two districts in which tho publican candidates were elected, and to endeavour to secure unanimity of action in the matter of 10 o'clock closing. It is intended to make a house-to-house canvass to ascertain whether six months' notico should be given to publicans to dispense with bai-naids.

It is estimated that the effect of the decision at the polling-booths yesterday re the 10 o'clock closing of public-houses lias depreciated hotel property in the city by £50,000. One publican near the Opera-house it is computed will lose £3000 a year. The City Council will lose £1000 a year in license fees. At tho election yesterday the Mayor and three city councillors wore rejected as being on tho licensed victuallers' ticket.
