MINING.
The Mount Ida Chronicle says:—"Our Blackstone Hill correspondent informs us that the trial crushing of 14J tons from the reef being prospected by the Naseby Quartz-prospecting Association has beenwaßhcd up, with a return cf between 3 jwfc and 4divt per tou. It is rather discjuraging that such a small yield should have been obtained at the outset, but it is not a hir criterion cf the value of the lode, which at keepor levels would prcbubly show up very diffdienlly. At any iate, the ttone has been proved to be auriferous, and therefore requires further exploitation." MI SING IN LAKE COUtiTY. Another cako of 1490z 16dwt of rctiirled gold, the proceeds of five week*' crushing, wh brought down on Saturday (saya the Mail) from the Invincible Company's mine. Tho Company, which are now working fu No. 2 level, have, we understand, a solid bluostono lode of sft wido, well imprcgnat-d with tie precious metal, and th;ir prospects are improving every week. The Upper Shotover correspondent of tho same paper .writes:—" Tho Etoppaga of the Phmix mine iii much felt, waiting an answer from Home re the formation c f samo into a company. . So far ns tho mine is concerned, however, it has never looked so weil as it docs now for many years, and I havo not the leist doubly that Ihere will be some .splendid rcsult3 from tho same mine yei before next winter if an early start )3 made.— loii will no doubt lavo hfiud the. results of iho Mount jinrum (Nugget) tributers, or rather of their cake—some 2220z of gold from about 500 tons of quartz—wbbb, s.i far as I can hear, came up to theiir anticipations, and with 70 or SO tons of the sue sort of stone to grass to start the now year, they can with safety look forward to having Eomo good returns before the termination of their tribute, some 18 months hence. Their difficulties are principally overcome, although tho ground gone through to arrive at the EoHd face gave an amount of trouble, bssideo doubling the expense for timber, £o ; but that is now a thing of the past, and they have a solid face of Btonu showing very payable gold, and you may eafely expect to hear of another very handsome cake before the fall sots in."
